The transient was discovered on 24th March 2023 at 13:13:55 (MJD 60027.55) by Pan-STARRS as PS23azj with a discovery magnitude of r = 19.29. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ic at z = 0.060.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J142807.53+070419.7; a J=14.57 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 5.64" S, 4.46" W (7.2 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.052 implies a m - M = 36.83.
