The transient was discovered on 18th September 2023 at 08:16:47 (MJD 60205.34) by ZTF as ZTF23abexebx with a discovery magnitude of g = 19.90. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.051.

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J015047.2+290227.1; a J=13.11 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 6.32" S, 1.70" W from the galaxy centre.
