The transient was discovered on 8th September 2023 at 12:14:36 (MJD 60195.51) by ZTF as ZTF23abbteqg with a discovery magnitude of r = 18.57. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.027.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with NGC2838; a V=10.33 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/GSC/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 14.06" S, 2.32" W (7.8 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 119.0 Mpc(z=0.028) implies a m - M = 35.38.
