The transient was discovered on 7th September 2023 at 07:07:40 (MJD 60194.30) by ZTF as ZTF23abbhuoa with a discovery magnitude of g = 20.14. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.088.

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J225201.4-032916.5; a J=14.01 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/2MASS/PS1/GAIA catalogues. Its located 0.35" N, 0.09" E from the galaxy centre.
