The transient was discovered on 5th September 2023 at 08:45:36 (MJD 60192.37) by ZTF as with a discovery magnitude of g = 18.21. It was subsequently classified as a SN II at z = 0.014.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with NGC1086; a J=11.57 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/2MASS/LASR catalogues. Its located 0.97" N, 5.24" E (1.4 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 56.0 Mpc(z=0.013) implies a m - M = 33.74.
