The transient was discovered on 29th May 2023 at 13:50:15 (MJD 60093.58) by ATLAS as ATLAS23lqb with a discovery magnitude of orange = 16.48. It was subsequently classified as a SN II at z = 0.015.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with UGC12639; a J=12.20 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/2MASS/LASR/PS1 catalogues. Its located 7.47" S, 0.80" E (0.6 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 17.5 Mpc(z=0.015) implies a m - M = 31.22.
