The transient was discovered on 23rd May 2023 at 08:23:34 (MJD 60087.35) by ZTF as ZTF23aakawpn with a discovery magnitude of r = 18.05. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.050.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with CGCG018-095; an r=15.75 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 0.28" S, 46.58" E (46.7 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 207.0 Mpc(z=0.047) implies a m - M = 36.58.
