The transient was discovered on 14th May 2023 at 04:48:00 (MJD 60078.20) by ASAS-SN as ASASSN-23du with a discovery magnitude of g = 16.80. It was subsequently classified as a SN II at z = 0.007.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with NGC4568; an r=17.76 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/PS1/LASR catalogues. Its located 60.26" S, 26.40" W (6.3 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 19.7 Mpc(z=0.007) implies a m - M = 31.47.
