The transient was discovered on 14th May 2023 at 07:12:00 (MJD 60078.30) by ZTF as ZTF23aajmpsa with a discovery magnitude of r = 19.98. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.060.

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J153801.56+142441.5; an r=20.67 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 1.03" N, 0.11" W from the galaxy centre.
