The transient was discovered on 7th May 2023 at 09:03:38 (MJD 60071.38) by Pan-STARRS as PS23cve with a discovery magnitude of r = 19.25. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.034.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with CGCG161-110; a J=12.66 mag galaxy found in the NED/SDSS/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 1.72" N, 5.88" W (3.8 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.034 implies a m - M = 35.90.
