The transient was discovered on 9th May 2023 at 06:07:12 (MJD 60073.26) by ZTF as ZTF23aaiypww with a discovery magnitude of g = 19.99. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.088.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J124656.5+171832.5; a J=15.80 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/2MASS/PS1/GAIA catalogues. Its located 1.46" N, 0.83" E (2.3 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.088 implies a m - M = 38.02.
