The transient was discovered on 30th April 2023 at 20:48:50 (MJD 60064.87) by ATLAS as ATLAS23jtz with a discovery magnitude of orange = 18.73. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.021.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with MCG-03-35-003; a J=12.65 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/2MASS/PS1/LASR catalogues. Its located 4.45" S, 5.35" E (1.6 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 46.2 Mpc(z=0.021) implies a m - M = 33.32.
