The transient was discovered on 23rd April 2023 at 07:15:18 (MJD 60057.30) by ZTF as ZTF23aahfxpr with a discovery magnitude of g = 20.01. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.022.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with NGC5939; a J=11.13 mag galaxy found in the NED/NED_D/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 12.84" S, 8.38" W (6.2 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 83.0 Mpc(z=0.022) implies a m - M = 34.60.
