Transient Name Server

SN Ic SN2023cpt

The transient was discovered on 27th February 2023 at 08:32:40 (MJD 60002.36) by ATLAS as ATLAS23cxk with a discovery magnitude of cyan = 17.10. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ic at z = 0.008.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with NGC5915; a J=10.60 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/2MASS/LASR/PS1 catalogues. Its located 8.35" N, 4.07" E (1.5 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 33.7 Mpc(z=0.008) implies a m - M = 32.64.
