The transient was discovered on 12th March 2023 at 12:58:20 (MJD 60015.54) by ATLAS as ATLAS23dng with a discovery magnitude of orange = 16.27. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.023.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with MRK1096; a J=13.01 mag galaxy found in the NED/SDSS/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 9.20" S, 0.08" W (3.9 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.023 implies a m - M = 35.03.
