The transient was discovered on 1st March 2023 at 08:42:43 (MJD 60004.36) by GaiaAlerts as Gaia23axm with a discovery magnitude of G = 18.57. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ib at z = 0.012.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with NGC1620; an r=12.16 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/LASR catalogues. Its located 19.93" S, 29.25" W (7.2 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 42.2 Mpc(z=0.012) implies a m - M = 33.13.
