The transient was discovered on 18th February 2023 at 04:28:19 (MJD 59993.19) by ATLAS as ATLAS23cgo with a discovery magnitude of cyan = 17.62. It was subsequently classified as a SN II at z = 0.019.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with KUG0843%2B275; an r=15.00 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/LASR catalogues. Its located 21.23" N, 20.95" E (7.0 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 48.9 Mpc(z=0.019) implies a m - M = 33.45.
