The transient was discovered on 2nd February 2023 at 03:18:43 (MJD 59977.14) by ZTF as ZTF21abyguqw with a discovery magnitude of g = 18.11. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia-91bg-like at z = 0.015.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Nuclear Transient

The transient is synonymous with NGC1642; a V=8.77 mag galaxy found in the NED/SDSS/GSC/PS1/LASR catalogues. Its located 1.2" (0.4 Kpc) from the galaxy core. A host z=0.015 implies a m - M = 34.13.
