The transient was discovered on 27th December 2018 at 15:01:26 (MJD 58479.63) by ATLAS as ATLAS18bcgx with a discovery magnitude of orange = 18.51. It was subsequently classified as a SN II at z = 0.034.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with CGCG136-008; a J=13.44 mag galaxy found in the NED/SDSS/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. It's located 6.11 arcsec N, 2.85 arcsec W (4.2 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.034 implies a m - M = 35.85.
