The transient was discovered on 28th December 2018 at 06:57:36 (MJD 58480.29) by ZTF as ZTF18adasopt with a discovery magnitude of g = 19.02. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.040.

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J052952.17+195001.0; a J=15.03 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. It's located 2.00 arcsec N, 2.44 arcsec E from the galaxy centre.
