The transient was discovered on 27th December 2018 at 10:52:19 (MJD 58479.45) by ATLAS as ATLAS18bchg with a discovery magnitude of orange = 17.51. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.028.

The transient is possibly associated with 139591067894220353; an r=19.30 mag galaxy found in the PS1 catalogue. It's located 0.46 arcsec N, 0.82 arcsec E from the galaxy centre.
