The transient was discovered on 28th November 2018 at 11:16:48 (MJD 58450.47) by ASAS-SN as ASASSN-18aai with a discovery magnitude of g = 16.30. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.019.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with ESO564-G014; an r=15.59 mag galaxy found in the NED/PS1/LASR catalogues. Its located 1.00" S, 72.25" E (27.4 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.019 implies a m - M = 34.54.
