The transient was discovered on 24th December 2018 at 11:53:08 (MJD 58476.50) by ZTF as ZTF18acwzxhr with a discovery magnitude of r = 18.31. It was subsequently classified as a SN II at z = 0.026.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with UGC05849; a J=12.21 mag galaxy found in the NED/SDSS/2MASS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 3.61" N, 3.51" E (2.6 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.026 implies a m - M = 35.28.
