The transient was discovered on 12th December 2018 at 12:05:45 (MJD 58464.50) by ZTF as ZTF18acvwmpw with a discovery magnitude of g = 20.99. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.080.

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J114928.00+291025.6; an r=19.91 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/PS1 catalogues. It's located 4.56 arcsec N, 0.94 arcsec E from the galaxy centre.
