The transient was discovered on 8th December 2018 at 14:35:31 (MJD 58460.61) by ATLAS as ATLAS18bbhg with a discovery magnitude of orange = 19.12. It was subsequently classified as a SN II at z = 0.026.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with UGC06053; a J=13.31 mag galaxy found in the NED/SDSS/2MASS catalogues. Its located 21.45" N, 8.00" E (12.1 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.026 implies a m - M = 35.30.
