The transient was discovered on 8th December 2018 at 13:59:31 (MJD 58460.58) by ATLAS as ATLAS18bbdt with a discovery magnitude of cyan = 18.71. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.019.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with SBS0755+588; a W1=13.52 mag galaxy found in the LASR catalogue. It's located 7.30 arcsec S, 7.00 arcsec W (3.9 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.019 implies a m - M = 34.61.
