The transient was discovered on 5th December 2018 at 22:24:57 (MJD 58457.93) by GaiaAlerts as Gaia18dsd with a discovery magnitude of G = 18.69. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.050.

The transient is possibly associated with 11504148+2441491; a J=15.32 mag galaxy found in the 2MASS catalogue. It's located 26.03 arcsec S, 17.44 arcsec E from the galaxy centre.
