The transient was discovered on 3rd December 2018 at 11:50:08 (MJD 58455.49) by ZTF as ZTF18acspjqd with a discovery magnitude of r = 18.58. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.080.

The transient is possibly associated with 07173097+3741501; a J=15.37 mag galaxy found in the 2MASS/PS1/GAIA catalogues. It's located 0.93 arcsec S, 1.64 arcsec E from the galaxy centre.
