The transient was discovered on 6th July 2018 at 00:00:00 (MJD 58305.00) by ZTF as ZTF18abealop with a discovery magnitude of r = 19.98. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.067.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J160344.22+541812.7; an r=17.89 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/PS1 catalogues. It's located 1.80 arcsec N, 1.72 arcsec E (3.2 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.067 implies a m - M = 37.38.
