The transient was discovered on 12th March 2023 at 23:32:28 (MJD 60015.98) by ATLAS as ATLAS23dpx with a discovery magnitude of orange = 17.79. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.018.

The transient is synonymous with 2MASXJ13023519%2B2726213; an r=15.76 mag galaxy found in the NED/SDSS/LASR catalogues. Its located 0.5" (0.2 Kpc) from the galaxy core. A host z=0.018 implies a m - M = 34.47.
